Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician

The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician works to engineering drawings and specifications, and refers to maintenance and quality control records to perform maintenance and repairs to plastic molds.

The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician disassembles the mold and inspects the condition of cavities, cores, inserts, slides, ejector pins, runners, vents, gates, cam pins, heel blocks, and other components of the mold to identify worn and damaged parts which require repair or replacement. The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician checks dimensional relationships among the various components of the mold and makes necessary repairs and adjustments. The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician uses Machine Tools such as Milling Machines, surface grinders, ID/OD grinders, EDM machines and lathes to repair and fit component parts as reassembly progresses. The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician uses a variety of hand tools and inspection and test equipment to fit and assemble components.

The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician must have good mechanical aptitude, good visualization ability and good math and blueprint reading skills, must have good knowledge of mold design and plastics processing, and must be skilled in the operation of machine tools. The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician will communicate with engineers and designers to resolve problems which arise during assembly and to revise engineering drawings and specifications as necessary. The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician must be skilled in the use of precision gaging equipment such as dial indicators, micrometers, height gages, calipers, and optical comparators.
