Metal Press Setup Technician

Metal presses are machine tools which are used to shear, blank, perforate, form, bend, and draw sheet metal in order to manufacture components such as brackets, hinges, lugs, handles, hangers, fenders, frames, and panels. The operations are performed using tooling called dies, which are mounted into the press.

The Metal Press Setup Technician works to part prints and specification sheets, and follows instruction documents to install the dies in the press. The Metal Press Setup Technician selects the correct raw material for the job and loads it into the die for trial running and makes adjustments in order to produce product in accordance with engineering specifications. The technician may replace worn or damaged die components when necessary to correct defects.

The Metal Press Setup Technician must have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
