Inspector

The Inspector works in a manufacturing operation, and is responsible for performing various inspection and quality checks to verify compliance of manufactured products with the engineering specifications. These products may be component parts or assemblies. The products may be press worked, machined, molded, welded, fabricated or cast. Working in accordance with blueprints, engineering specifications, process plans and operator instruction sheets, the inspector performs visual inspection for defects and dimensional inspection using various measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, dial indicators, optical comparators, profilometers, hole gages, plug gages, snap gages, functional gages, and coordinate measuring machines in order to verify dimensional and geometric accuracy of the products. The products may be inspected at any point during processing or after completion.

If defects are observed, the Inspector will take steps to ensure that corrective action is taken and that proper disposition is made of product which is out of compliance with specifications. This may involve scrapping or rework of product where feasible.

The Inspector must have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Blueprint Reading
  • Math
  • Inspection and Measurement Techniques
  • Communication, both Verbal and Written
  • Science
  • Manufacturing Processes
